Boating

Surrounded by Lake Superior and Lake Huron, two of the mightiest freshwater lakes in the world, the Algoma Region is home to world class boating. Smaller inland lakes laced with rivers too numerous to list, Lake Huron alone has more than 30,000 islands. Lake Superior is home to secluded coves, bays and inlets along its rugged coastline. Both lakes are punctuated by sand beaches and washed by crystal clear waters flowing from the Canadian Shield.

Almost every community large and small along Lake Huron’s North Channel offers sheltered docking facilities. In city of Sault Ste. Marie, pleasure craft may enter Lake Superior through the historic Canadian lock that was restored and officially re-opened in May of 1998. Although facilities are spread a bit further apart along the shores of Lake Superior, there is a network of marinas from Sault Ste. Marie to Thunder Bay. There are hundreds of cove and bays along the rugged Lake Superior shoreline in which to drop anchor.

Yachtsmen, power-boaters and sailors will discover many boating adventures in Algoma!
