Mississagi Provincial Park

With secluded campgrounds on Semiwite Lake, Mississagi is located north of Elliot Lake. Visitors will find solitude and untouched wilderness in this park. Paddle pristine lakes and hike numerous trails to spectacular vistas, especially in autumn when the trees are ablaze with bright colour. Discover abandoned copper mines and logging camps from the area’s industrial past.

Look for fossils in ripple rock along park trails caused by wave action on an ancient sandy beach 2 billion years ago. These rock formations are rare and protected and can be seen on the Flack Lake Nature trail. Other reminders of the past include glacial erratics and huge boulders that were scattered through the park by the receding glaciers 11,000 years ago at the end of the last Ice Age.

The patient observer can spot moose, black bear and white-tailed deer. There is excellent trout fishing in spring. Listen for warblers, vireos and flycatchers.
