The Sault Ste. Marie Museum originally built between 1904 to 1906 as a Post Office, stands out with its distinctive clock tower and unique architecture in a combination of styles.  The Museum welcomes visitors year round to visit this wonderful heritage building and explore three floors of exhibit galleries that depict the heritage of Sault Ste. Marie. The museum is accessible to all. Group Tours are available by arrangement.

 

 ART GALLERY OF ALGOMA

The Art Gallery of Algoma is located on Sault Ste. Marie's waterfront.  The Gallery offers a wide variety of exhibitions in two galleries.  Over 25 exhibits annually and an extensive permanent collection, have earned the praise of distinguished art critics from all over the world.  Travelling exhibits have come from the Royal Ontario Museum, National Gallery and the Canadian Museum of Nature to name just a few.

 

 

ERMATINGER CLERGUE NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE

The Site comprises of the Oldest Stone House Northwest of Toronto, built in 1814 by Charles Oakes Ermatinger (Fur Trader). This home has authentically recreated rooms, costumed interpreters, heritage activities, and historic gardens.  The Clergue Blockhouse is a link to Sault Ste. Marie’s Past.  The building was transformed from a North West Fur Company powder magazine to Clergue’s residence. It now stands as a testimony to the man behind our industry.

 

CANADIAN BUSHPLANE HERITAGE MUSEUM

The Centre is the only unique and outstanding facility in North America dedicated to the history of both Bushplane and Forest Fire Management.  Visit the original 25,000 sq. ft. hangar where in 1948 water bombing was invented.  A lifelike trip in our flight simulator puts visitors in the pilot seat as they soar above the magnificent beauty of Algoma.   Don’t miss our spectacular Object Theatre presentation “Wings Over the North”.  It will have you sitting on the edge of your seat!
