Day 1: Echo Bay to St. Joseph Island

Travel East from Sault Ste. Marie along Highway 17, turn off to Echo Bay and stop at the Loon Dollar Monument. Take a stroll along the beautiful nature Boardwalk. Back on Highway 17 continue to Highway 548 to St. Joseph Island.

St. Joseph Island is renowned for its scenic views, rolling countryside and quaint villages. Visit Richards Landing to walk along the Marina boardwalk and visit the shops. Visit the Island Museum which houses over 6000 artifacts and the rich history of the Island. Have lunch in Richards Landing.

Continue on Highway 548 to the area known as Sailor's Encampment. Follow this roadway to 5th Side Road and explore Adcock's Woodland Gardens. This 4 acre garden is filled with beautiful garden flora and the fauna of the natural forest.
 

Explore Fort St. Joseph National Historic Site of Canada.It was the rallying point for the British soliders, First Nations and Canadians who set out to capture Fort Mackinac. This marked the first battle of the War of 1812. Explore the visitor centre, hike the nature trails and enjoy the stunning view.

From the Fort, head to the village of Hilton Beach on Highway 548. There are many historic buildings, shops, parks and beaches. Stay one night in Hilton Beach and enjoy dinner at a waterfront restaurant.

Day 2: Thessalon and the Mississagi Valley

Enjoy a delicious breakfast prepared for you take Highway 548 and head back to Highway 17. Travel east through Bruce Mines to Thessalon. This town is located on Lake Huron's North Shore. Stop for lunch and fuel.

From Highway 17 turn onto Highway 129 north to the stunning Mississagi Valley. This area can boast of being one of the most scenic areas in Northern Ontario! Follow the roadway to Aubrey Falls, take a short hike to these impressive falls.

Travel to junction of Highway 556 (Ranger Lake Road), continue west on 556 to Searchmont. Continue to Heyden and follow Highway 17 south back to Sault Ste. Marie.

This tour can be completed in one day but you'll want to stop and explore the many attractions along the route.
