Mountain bikers looking for gnarly, challenging mountain biking trails in Northern Ontario – look no further! Algoma’s rugged landscape is a mountain bikers’ dream. Rocky elevations and stunning scenery await adventurers and convenient places to stay compliment the experience.
The following are a sample of cycling and mountain biking trails in Algoma:
Searchmont Resort
Home to 250 km of summer mountain biking trails, day rentals are available. Trails range from easy to challenging from tight singletrack to ungroomed back country trails. The Achigan “Cannon Ball” route is best for high, heavy mountain terrain while the Goulais route is perfect for beautiful scenery.
King Mountain
As one of the highest elevations of the Gitchee Gumee Trail, special permission can be obtained from Stokely Creek Lodge to mountain bike on King Mountain. There are incredible views of the Algoma Highlands Conservancy.
Elliot Lake
Home to hundreds of kilometers of mountain bike trails near the city center, mountain bikers will bask in the natural rugged terrain. Hotspots include the Elliot Lake Dam and the Deer Trail Touring Route.
Lake Superior Coastline
Not for the faint of heart, this cycling follows Highway 17 through Lake Superior Provincial Park. Must stops along the shore of Lake Superior are Old Woman’s Bay, Katherine’s Cove and the Agawa Rock Pictographs. As the highway hugs the shoreline you will witness the pinnacle views of the mightiest of the Great Lakes.
