Cross Country Skiing

Our region offers some of the finest Nordic skiing terrain, track, and facilities in the world. With hundreds of kilometres of trails, cross country skiing in Algoma is an adventure like no other! Backcountry trails lead adventurous skiers through snowy remote valleys where the silence is broken only by the muffled rush of mountain streams. Meticulously groomed and well-marked trails offer experiences for novice and experienced Nordic skiers of all ages.

Hiawatha Highlands has over 50 km (31 mi) of cross country ski trails, 4 km of snowshoeing, and fat bike trails.

Stokely Creek Lodge has 120 km (72 mi) of uninterrupted cross-country ski trails through the Algoma Highlands and up to King Mountain. You’ll find cross-country ski rentals, warm-up shacks, lessons and accommodations close by for both of these trail systems.

Strap on your skis and experience the trails at the Thessalon Ski Trails in the Stewart Highlands. With over 8 km of groomed trails provided by volunteers and welcoming landowners, the Thessalon Ski Trail is a picturesque adventure.

The Boom Camp Interpretive Park in Blind River transforms its trails into cross-country ski trails in winter. Season passes are available for family or single memberships.

Wilderness cross-country skiing trails can also be found in Elliot Lake, St. Joseph Island, Wawa, Hearst, Chapleau, and many provincial parks.
