SSO Classical Spectacular

February 25, 2024 - February 25, 2024
Following last season’s acclaimed performance of Beethoven’s First Symphony and Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture, the SSO will switch things around and present Mendelssohn’s Third Symphony and Beethoven’s Cariolan Overture. Like the Hebrides Overture, Mendelssohn wrote his Third Symphony after visiting Scotland. Beethoven’s Cariolan Overture was composed for the tragedy about the Roman general Gnaeus Marcius Coriolanus. James Gardiner, a native of Sault Ste. Marie, will be joining us from his post in the Toronto Symphony Orchestra to perform the Trumpet Concerto by Czech composer Neruda.
