Stretching along the scenic North Channel of Lake Huron and directly on Trans-Canada Hwy 17, Huron Shores is where Northern Ontario opens up. The municipality serves as the gateway to the Mississagi River Valley, comprising Little Rapids, Sowerby, Dayton, Iron Bridge, Dean Lake, and other historical hamlets.
Here, you’ll find a landscape shaped by water and wilderness: rugged shorelines, peaceful inland lakes, and forests laced with trails. Paddle calm rivers or float along them with friends. Cast a line, hunt for hidden geocaches, cycle the Waterfront Trail, or snowmobile through a vast regional trail network. From scenic back roads to shoreline lookouts, there is always something to discover. Best of all, there is plenty of room to breathe while you do it.
Highlighting the region’s natural beauty, the Municipality serves as the gateway to the Mississagi Delta Provincial Nature Reserve. This site marks the mouth of the largest river flowing into Lake Huron. In the autumn, the Deer Trail Touring Route provides a spectacular scenic drive.
Learn about Huron Shores’ proud heritage at the Heritage Park Museum in Little Rapids and the Iron Bridge Historical Museum. Annual events include: the Thessalon Township Heritage Association’s Country Fair, and the Iron Bridge Agricultural Fall Fair. On Saturdays, the Iron Bridge Museum hosts the weekly Farmers’ Market from June to September.
