For four days each September, Sault Ste. Marie becomes an unlikely meeting place for jazz guitarists from across Canada, the United States, Europe, and beyond. Drawn together by a shared love of jazz, improvisation, and lifelong learning, they gather for the annual MWG Jazz Guitar Summit — a celebration of music, community, and creative growth.
The Friday Showcase Concert offers a unique glimpse into that experience.
Featuring two sets of classic jazz standards, the concert brings Summit attendees to the stage alongside an outstanding group of local musicians: Matt Warnock (guitar), Mark Gough (drums), Frank Deresti (bass), and Holly Holmes (vocals). Throughout the evening, guest guitarists from around the world will share the music they’ve been studying, performing, and refining during their time at the Summit.
The result is a concert that is both intimate and international. Familiar melodies are reimagined through a wide range of musical voices, backgrounds, and experiences, creating performances that are spontaneous, heartfelt, and uniquely collaborative.
At its heart, the MWG Jazz Guitar Summit is about connection — bringing people together through a shared passion for music. This showcase concert celebrates that spirit, highlighting not only the talent of the performers but also the remarkable community that has grown around the Summit over the past three years.
