The Sault Symphony Orchestra’s Music of the 80s takes you on a fun and engaging musical “time machine,” exploring music written in the “80s” of four different centuries—1680, 1780, 1880, and 1980. You’ll hear the bright, ceremonial sounds of Henry Purcell’s Trumpet Tune and Jeremiah Clarke’s Prince of Denmark’s March, followed by the playful charm of Joseph Haydn’s Surprise Symphony. The programme then builds to the powerful drama of Peter Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, before ending with memorable selections from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera. Spanning Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and modern musical theatre, this concert shows how music has evolved over time while still connecting with audiences in exciting and familiar ways.
