Always overshadowed by this claim to fame, you may not realize Sault Ste. Marie could also compete with some of the best when it comes to burgers. That’s right, burgers! Whether you’re looking for a unique twist, a custom build or a classic burger & fries. Sault Ste. Marie does not disappoint in any of these categories.

The Burger Don

A burger you can’t refuse! Burger Don features delicious gourmet burgers, gourmet hot dogs, tacos, spiked milkshakes and much more!
For the curious taste bud, The Burger Don delivers the unexpected with the Doughnut Burger. That is not a typo. Double Patty, Maple Glazed Bacon, and Cheddar Cheese stacked between (you guessed it) a grilled Honey Dipped Doughnut! Seriously, try it. It’s deceivingly delicious.

Featuring 11 mouth-watering options, Chummy’s Grill does not disappoint! After looking over the burger menu, you may have trouble deciding which delicious burger you want to try, so you’ll already be planning your next visit to conquer them all!
If you like heat and punch of flavour, you have to try the Spicy Brave Burger (Melted Jalapeno Havarti, Jalapenos and Chipotle Mayo on a homemade bun)… Perfection. A must-try, though, is the Scone Burger (ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, lettuce and tomato… on a scone!)

Ernie’s Coffee Shop

Originally opened in 1971 by Ernie Febbraro with his wife Judy, Ernie’s has become a landmark staple of Sault Ste. Marie. Purchased in 2020, new owner John Armstrong continues to awe the masses with his updated menu of amazing dishes and daily specials.
Whether it’s the Ernie Burger or the Chicken Sandwich, you will be overly satisfied with your decision. Just make sure you get a slice of Coconut Cream pie for dessert. You’re welcome.

The Stockhouse Grill

Prepare to have your mind blown and wear your loose pants, cause you’re going to need them when you’re finished. The Stockhouse Grill is famous for serving up massive, comfort-food classics inspired by Sault Ste. Marie’s industrial roots.
The menu packs a punch with crowd-pleasers like the signature Stockhouse BBQ Bacon Burger, crispy chicken sandwiches, and a massive lineup of steel-industry-themed poutines—like the Molten Iron and Pickling Line Poutine. In addition to the regular menu, the Stockhouse offers an off-menu weekly special burger that will have you coming back week after week.
Stackburger

Sometimes perfection is in simplicity, and Stackburger is no exception. Mouth-watering Smash Burgers and Crispy Fresh-Cut Fries- isn’t that all we need in life? Stack the patties as high or low as you want and enjoy. If you stack them too high, you might break a record. To date, the highest reported stack was a whopping 14 patties in January 2024.
Not feelin’ beef? No problem! They also serve an amazing southern-style Crispy Chicken Burger that has me salivating just writing this.

Blockhouse Pub

Located in the Canal District on the Sault Ste. Marie Waterfront, the Blockhouse Pub offers incredible Gourmet Burgers that will be very deliciously difficult to choose from – like their classic Pub Burger and loaded Smash Burgers – there is no wrong choice here. The only mistake you can make is not to order the Pickle Fries. Trust me, it’s the best decision you will make all day.

Wacky Wings

Although wings are their claim to fame, don’t let the name fool you; it is far from their only specialty. With a full menu from Chicken Wings (obviously) to Mac ‘N Cheese and, of course, burgers, there is no wrong choice. But if you had to twist my arm, I’d have to go with the Dr. Pepper BBQ Crunch Burger (6oz beef patty, bacon, crispy onion tanglers, Swiss cheese, Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce, and garlic Parmesan drizzle) … yum!

Locally owned and operated, it’s known for its fresh Angus beef burgers. “The” 40 Creek Burger is popular, served with cheddar, bacon, sautéed onions and 40 Creek BBQ sauce.
The Big Bear – Hawk Junction
We’ll try to describe the size of the burgers you can get at The Big Bear, but you might not believe us! Let’s just say, it’s home to Ken’s Hard Times 1 lb burger. This place is legendary among motorsports enthusiasts who are looking for a hearty meal out on their ride.
Bangin Burger N Chicken Shack – Wawa
The Bangin’ Burger is known for its spicy house sauce and 1/3 homemade charbroiled patty. Or try their Bangin’ Chicken burger. But don’t forget to pair it with a poutine made with Quebec cheese curds.
17 Restaurant – Blind River
If you’re passing through Blind River on Trans-Canada Highway 17, 17 Restaurant serves up a unique twist on pub classics with their flavour-packed Taco Burger. Featuring a seasoned 6 oz beef patty layered with melted cheddar cheese, crunchy taco chips, and crisp lettuce, it comes complete with sour cream and salsa on the side for a Tex-Mex bite.
Mississaugi Fry Company – Mississauga First Nation
Known for serving mouth-watering roadside classics, this food stand delivers a satisfying burger. Pair it with an order of their famous fresh-cut fries or a poutine, and you’ve got the ultimate roadside feast. Make sure to arrive with a serious appetite!
Bobbers Restaurant & Motel – Bruce Mines
Located in Bruce Mines, Bobbers Restaurant & Motel is known for its tasty wings and for its Admiral Burger—a 2-patty masterpiece stacked with all the classic fixings.
