A Multitude of Species

Looking for a certain species of fish? Algoma is rich with diverse fish species that inhabit our lakes, rivers and streams. Algoma enjoys year round fishing from the excitement of the walleye opener in May, throughout the summer months fishing for bass to fall fishing for brook trout. Winter ice fishing has anglers pulling in big trout and northern pike throughout the area. For both gear anglers and fly fishing, our region has a multitude of fish species to cast for and hook.

Besides a diverse species of fish, you’ll find four distinct fishing vacations that you can book in Algoma: drive-in, train-in, fly-in fishing, charter fishing and guide services. Each vacation is not only an exceptional experience but you will always find big fish, remote lakes and real adventure.

Fishing seasons vary with species and location while some waters offer open season for select species all year; others have strict regulations and special closures.

For specific information on select species please download the Ontario Fishing Regulations which are available online.
