Blacksmithing with Dennies Frechette – Thursday, July 9th, and Tuesdays, July 14th & 21st
Spend some time in the forge, learning from master blacksmith Denis Frechette! Denis is offering beginner-level classes throughout July. The beginner classes will serve as a great introduction to basic forging/metalworking.
Basket-weaving with Heather Pepper – Saturday, July 18th or Wednesday, July 22nd (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
Spend a productive and creative day making your own market basket/tote. Tools and materials are provided, and participants will have a completed project to take home at the day’s end. The small class size, limited to six participants, will be a perfect, intimate learning environment – but don’t wait to register, this workshop will fill up fast!
Participants with some basket-making experience are preferred, as this is a fairly challenging project and most suitable for adults.
AlgomaTrad Song Circles – Every Monday night until the end of July, 7:00 – 9:00 PM
The Acoustic Café/Song Circle evenings are a great opportunity for local musicians to share their songs in a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. Musicians of all ages and levels are encouraged to sign up. These are evenings of sharing and community, so please bring along your friends and family! Snacks to share are welcome! Sign up on the website.
Tune Sessions – Every Tuesday night until July 21, 6:30 – 9:30 PM
Join us on Tuesday nights for sessions where we play traditional tunes in a welcoming and encouraging atmosphere that emphasizes learning and sharing together. Tunes start out nice and slow until 8:15 pm when we break for tea and snacks. We pick up the speed then and continue until 9:30 pm. All are welcome to stay for the whole evening, listeners included!
Community Dances! – Saturdays, July 11th & 18th, 7:00 PM
This year, we’re holding TWO July Community Dances! Join us in the Pavilion at the AlgomaTrad Centre for two evenings of dancing, live traditional music, and lots of fun! Local callers Julie Schryer and Rod Martin will guide us through contra, ceili and square dances each step of the way, and we’ll add in a few waltzes too. No experience is necessary – the dances are beginner-friendly, and great for people of all ages. Everyone is welcome!
