SHINGWAUK KINOOMAAGE GAMIG (SKG) is a teaching and research centre of excellence in Anishinaabe education. We are one of nine Indigenous post-secondary institutes of higher learning that are legally recognized in Ontario and also home to the National Chiefs Library. We aim to educate and preserve the integrity of Anishinaabe knowledge and understanding by developing and providing authentic, academic programs and workshops reflecting the Anishinaabe worldview, ways of learning and knowing.
Located in historic Baawaating along the St. Marys River, SKG was founded based on the original vision of Ketegaunseebee Ojibwe Chief, Shingwaukonse’ibun. Chief Shingwauk’s vision was an Anishinaabe Teaching Lodge with an overall goal of providing cross cultural, land-based education in Anishinaabe culture. Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig strives to educate the present and future generations in a positive, cooperative and respectful environment through the lens of Indigenous cultural studies, language and land-based learning initiatives.
