Algoma is home to numerous fishing experiences, whether you want to drive up to your cabin door at the lodge of your choice, ride the rails aboard the train to lodges located along the line or take the ultimate Canadian wilderness fly-in adventure by a float plane to remote lodges and outposts. For the avid fly fishers Algoma boasts some of the best brook trout and salmon found in Northern Ontario. These incredible fishing experiences are all available in Algoma.

Hunting season in Algoma begins when the leaves change colour in the fall and ends with the first blanket of snow layers the ground. There are three types of hunting adventures in our “big backyard”: small game wild fowl and big game. Black bear season begins mid-August while small game, wild fowl and big game, including moose and deer, begins mid September thru mid December. Many of the Algoma resorts, lodges and wilderness fly-in camps are seasonal hunt camps with experienced guides.

Drive-in fishing.

There are many lodges and resorts accessible by vehicle which you can even park right outside your cabin or the lodge.

Fly-in fishing.

The ultimate fishing fly-in adventure, fish some of Algoma's remote lakes only accessible by plane.

Train-in fishing.

There are over a dozen lodges that can be accessed by rail with each of them offering fantastic fishing and hunting.

Fly fishing.

Algoma's abundance of pristine lakes and crystal-clear rivers makes our region one of the best places to fly fish.

Ice fishing.

Algoma has the perfect conditions for ice fishing and access to lakes filled with trout, walleye and pike.
